THE LANGUAGE OF REDEMPTION

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)

Learn the language of redemption! “Christ hath [past tense] redeemed us!” Mark Hankins

When Jesus went to the cross, He was made to be sin for us. He took our condition, and a surgical procedure was performed. God cut Himself open and put you in Christ. Three days later the process was complete, and the redemption story is still being told around the world.

Paul speaks of the preaching of the cross or the language of the cross in 1 Corinthians 1:18.  The Greek word for “preaching” is the word logos. Logos means  “the written word.”

Your redemption and your identification have a certain language. You must learn this language of identification. Get your tenses and verbs right because when Christ was crucified, you werecrucified with Him. You died with Him. You are seated with Him. Start speaking that language. It is the key to God’s economy.

Confession: Christ has redeemed me. I was crucified with Him. I died with Him. I am now seated with Him!

THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.  (1Corinthians1:17)

Paul used the word “cross” In 1 Corinthians 1:17, not because he was simply talking about the crucifixion. He identified with the cross because that is where God identified with him.

The first step of God’s identification with sinful man began with the incarnation when God became a man, and Jesus came to earth. 

The second step of God’s identification with fallen man was when Jesus told John to baptize Him. When Jesus got in the line with sinners, He said, “Baptize me with those who are confessing their sin.”  John the Baptist did not understand what was happening so he said, “I am not baptizing You.” However, the union between humanity and deity in Jesus can never be broken. Not just for one human generation, but through all eternity.  Jesus is still a man right now at the right hand of God.

Confession: “I consider myself as having died and now enjoying a second existence, which is simply Jesus using my body.” (Galatians 2:20 The Distilled Bible)

GRACE VS. LEGALISM

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace where in we stand… (Romans 5:2)

The mystery and the glory of the believer’s life is that your life is one with Him. – Mark Hankins

Salvation is the reuniting of God and man. God’s does not work on you while you are isolated from Him. He doesn’t gradually render you fit to be reunited to Him. Legalism teaches that God operates on you apart from Himself, but grace begins by uniting you to God. Through that union, He supplies the life and power necessary to bring you into His holiness.

Grace is the opposite of legalism. Legalism says that you are not good enough and will have to live in sin-consciousness for the rest of your life. Grace, however, says because of what Christ has done, your spirit is instantly joined to Christ.

God welcomes you because of faith in Christ. He takes you right in and gives you His righteousness. Consider the depth of this principle of the Gospel when it is applied: you are united with Christ!

Confession: I have access by faith into the grace of God. I rejoice in hope of the glory of God because of what Christ has done for me. I am dead to sin and alive unto God!

OLD THINGS ARE PASSED AWAY

They [the former tyrant masters] are dead, they shall not live and reappear; they are powerless ghosts, they shall not rise and come back.  (Isaiah 26:14  AMP)

Wherever sin and Satan dominated your life, every trace of its supremacy has perished or come to an end. Mark Hankins

Have you ever had your past come back like a ghost? The devil is the master of deception. He will tell you that fear, confusion, and sickness are still there.

Isaiah said the tyrants that ruled your past are powerless ghosts. They shall not rise and come back. God has visited you, made an end to them. He has caused every memory and trace of their supremacy to perish. Old habits, old attitudes, the devil, shame, and the past shall not control you.

God says that old things are passed away. You might think, “It sure doesn’t feel like old things have passed away.”  It has nothing to do with the way you feel. You have to challenge every attitude and thought that comes against your mind with the Word of God. It doesn’t matter what the devil did to you; God said, “I swallowed that thing up, so there is no trace that it was ever there.”

Confession: I am God’s property. Old things have passed away. I have a new life in Christ!

POWER IN THE GOSPEL

That I may know him and the power of his resurrection… being conformable to his death. (Philippians 3:10)

The power of the Gospel is destructive and constructive; destructive to the works of the devil, and constructive to the believer. Mark Hankins

The power of the Gospel is seen in both the death and resurrection of Christ. The Gospel gives you the ability to not only speak life but also to speak death to theworks of the devil. The death of Christ put an end to what you were; the resurrection of Christ opened up who you are in your new identity.

Someone might say, “The doctors have told me that I have incurable cancer. They have given me only a few months to live.”  Hold it just a second–not only was there a resurrection in the Gospel, but there was also a death. So you can say, “I curse that cancer and command it to die. I speak death to that cancer.”

What does that mean? “Death” means, “cease to exist.” You can speak to works of the devil that are ruling in your life today and command them to cease to exist in the name of Jesus!

Confession: I speak to the works of the devil that are ruling my life today and command them to cease to exist in the name of Jesus! Now life comes in!
